The Port of Port Orford is primarily a commercial fishing port but also offers excellent sports fishing and scuba diving ocean access. Nellies Cove is a very quiet area, away from the Northern and Western exposure of the Pacific. This is a good spot for beginner diving, as well as an easy location to check-out equipment before heading to more advanced sites. It is also a favorite spot for Cold Water Scuba Diving. The Port Orford Jetty offers Shore Divers easy access to natural vertical rock formations swarming with sea life. The chimney-type rocks can be described as giant underwater pinnacles that host various critters such as sea sponges, scallops and nudibranchs. When diving the inside of the jetty, watch for boat traffic and be sure to bring along a goodie bag in order to collect yummy crabs crawling along the sandy bottom.
