Aerial View of Orford Castle Keep

Note in the upper left hand corner, the small fishing fleet at anchor awaiting a high tide to allow it to leave their sanded-in harbor and enter the North Sea. This is not unlike Port Orford, Oregon - where our fleet requires a bi-annual visit from an Army Corps of Engineers dredge/channel flusher to maintain our access access to the ocean. This area of England is part of the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
This area pictured above is "full of history, and even in the 16th century was a favored spot for visitors - in 1524 the monks of Bretton Priortu entertained the Queen of France to a picnic at Staverton Derr Park. Visitors are still charmed today; the countryside is a haven for all kinds of native flora and fauna; and the village of Orford itself makes a pleasant walk through to the ancient church."
