Thanks to Port Orford Website Designer David Mott, we are now automatically archiving one photo of each day (More than 600 days so far) so that prospective visitors & retirees can judge for themselves what Port Orford's normal weather has been like.

We are located (click for Google Satellite Map!) about an hour north of the California border. The above photo was taken from our guestroom from which you can view the beach and a small cove below. Humbug Mountain is off in the distance to your right. Within a two block walk are restaurants, the beach, and the town's harbor. I've recently created and then uploaded two Port Orford-related videos to YouTube to help raise the visibility of our sleepy Community. They are my first efforts and brief with lots of action shots! I hope you'll like them: (3m11s) Port of Port Orford Oregon - Recreational and Commercial Fishing for over a Century and made on the beach below us, (1m25s) Port Orford Oregon Battle Rock Beach Surfers

Our bed & breakfast is a contemporary 2 story home we have designed and built ourselves over a 25 year period. We have direct beach access and are perched on a bit of a peninsula looking southeasterly over miles of unspoiled Oregon Coast. Regarding the ODOT RoadCam photo, we are the second building in from the left hand side of the RoadCam's field of view. This traffic counting camera and its remote temperature/wind speed weather station is located just outside of town, looking back towards us and the Battle Rock Wayfinder City Park. Note that the outside of the lens is often coated with storm-tossed salt water residue and sea foam !

The Port of Port Orford Putting into the Ocean Port Orford's harbor is where fishermen use 5 story high cranes to launch their boats into the ocean. The Port Orford area (42 44 45 N, 124 29 46 W) has a lot to offer healthy retired folks who enjoy a rural location with a windy & wet, but temperate climate. Our community has to be about the smallest (population 1000) & friendliest, incorporated commercial fishing village on the coast. There is no ocean sports charter fishing available, but with the Sixes, Elk, Rogue & Chetco Rivers close by, bank fishing for Salmon and Steelhead can be excellent. For drift boat fishing, check with Baker's Guide Service. To learn about Oregon's wildlife related resources, visit the Oregon Fish & Wildlife Department's website.

Cape Blanco Slope Soaring The hobby and sport of flying Radio Controlled (R/C) Model Airplanes is becoming more popular year-round at Cape Blanco State Park. To view the Cape Blanco's current wind data, visit iwindsurf.com's Cape Blanco webpage.
Storm Watch We are in an excellent Storm Watching Location and Theresia Hewitt's Wind & Weather Updates Storm Watching Page featuring her own local photos, accurate weather reporting and an archive of the month's Current Wind & Rain Reports. Check out the Oregon Surf Forecast Tools to see what to expect.

After 40 years in Port Orford, Brenda & I are heading towards retirement and have decided to sell our Port Orford property as a residence. In the meantime we are continuing take bookings for our Bed & Breakfast. We have always been practical people and given the slowness of the Real Estate market, we expect to be in business for quite awhile longer :)

Our Community recently received very good news. Our Port and The Port Orford Ocean Resource Team and, a group of other governmental agencies have announced that they have completed a $10 million Marine Project proposal for Port Orford". It is one of the Oregon Coast's few 'Green & shovel-ready' economic development projects ready for funding. You can read all about it HERE. Whenever any part of this transformative project is funded, there will be a significant economic impact on Port Orford.
